Three directors, ten writers and not one of them with the guts to skip Lex Luthor as the villain (no offense Kevin Spacey). This was the same problem in the original four films (or really the last two). You would think someone would have actually studied the comic books before shooting the movies.
By the way it wasn't crap, just very disappointing.

I think it's because, ultimately, Superman is not an interesting character. Drama is created when there is conflict. How can there be conflict if Superman is indestructible? His only weakness is kryptonite, so it seems like a pretty big limitation for creating dramatic tension.
Batman, Spiderman, X-men, et al are interesting because they all suffer from human weaknesses that we can relate to.
Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong; I loved the first two Superman movies with Christopher Reeve. I just think audiences are more sophisticated now.

Not seen it yet, but it's like all the other films over the last few years - blue or green screen nonsense with computers doing the jobs of actors. The last good films were in the 80s - bring back Spielberg!

Is it crap? I haven't seen it yet but I have heard that it is very good. Anyone don't listen to what anyone else thinks about a filem we all have individual tastes, it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same thing. Go see the film and see what you think!!

Because like a lot of these types of films nowadays it's aimed at a female audience. As most TV programmes and advertisements are.
But not quite crap.

it was dissapointing more than crap i actually thought brandon routh did exceptional playing clark/superman. however the downfall is its to much off a love story!!!!!! the should have had a new villain lex luthor is tiresome!!!!!also we should have found out when he went back home he had more weaknessess than though making him more human.all the great superhero films succeed when you see a more humane side to the charachter. batman, spiderman, hellboy and so forth.

Same reason as MI:3 being pants. They introduced a predominant love interest and replaced most of the action with emotion.
Thats never a good idea.
