Always. Which probably is the best habit, because you never know what they're planning on doing, but on the other side of that, they could be have a crap of a day and my smile might have made a difference!

I usually do. Just a friendly smile to acknowledge that I 've seen or noticed him/her so he/she could not pull a fast one on me. But usually a smile makes a persons day and there is no harm in making someone happy. Smile and the whole world smiles back at you.

No. My mom always said never to smile at a stranger. And i never do. So it's not safe to smile at a stranger.

I do, just because I was taught it was good manners. I smiled and said good morning to a lady once who stopped and chewed me out, saying how do I know its good. I'm still smiling though. She must have been having a bad day.
