Congress is so retarted if they do this! They should realize that this will never work because the whole economy would have to restructure itself so they can figure out sales tax and pricing issues, it would be a mess and the stockmarket would flop even more then it is right now. If they do go through w/ it, I'm guessing it's going to be like when the U.S. tried to switch over to metric in the 70's or 80's and found out that it confused the crap out of everyone then went back to normal.

Sorry, there wasn't a clear question, my question is what you think about this and whether congress should go through w/ it or not.

don't get rid of pennies - they are necessary -just coin them on magnetic strip cards so we can transact them without an actual piece of copper

debit cards are the way lets maximize their use in this way

Some states do not use the penny. It does not require a restucturing of the economy to round to the nickel. A penny costs more than a penny to produce. This is stupid. If the nickel is eliminated, then we round to the dime. I think my 2nd grader could handle it.

F.Y.I., those of us in engineering, the military, avaition, science, etc. have been using the metric system for years. It's not a foreign language. My 2nd grader has a working knowledge on that front, too.

The coins costs more to create than they are worth!! I don't know if getting rid of them is the answer but basic math/economics says that at this rate the country will go broke just producing money! Crazy huh!?

We all need to hang togather and make sure the penny stays. The government has to much control over us anyway.
