Michigan is incredible and beautiful. I lived there all my life but I am in PA for now. Can't wait to get back to Mi!!!! Everytime I enter the state I see the sign that says
"Welcome To Michigan-Great Lakes-Great Times"
So true so true...I get so happy to see that sign.
You can't beat having 8 lakes connected to each other so you can cruze and booze and have an all round good time. The people in Michigan are the coolest mutha funkas on the planet!!
Here is a lil joke that applies to this question
The Creation Of Michigan
Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven, God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God, "Where have you been?" God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look Michael, look what I've made." Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?" "It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance." "Balance?", inquired Michael, still confused. God explained, pointing to different parts of earth, "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while southern Europe is going to be poor; the Middle East over there will be a hot spot. Over here I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people," God continued, pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot and arid while this one will be very cold and covered in ice. The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a large land mass and said, "What's that one?" "Ah," said God. "That's Michigan, the most glorious place on earth. You'll notice that it is made in the fashion of my hand, the Hand of God. There are beautiful lakes, rivers, sunsets and rolling hills. The people from Michigan are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hard working and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace." Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed," What about balance, God?" "You said there would be balance!" God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the idiots I'm putting around them in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Canada"

When I was 21 I moved from MI to San Diego, CA, THEN moved back because I screwed up and ran out of $, THEN I met my husband and moved to NY- Long Island. When I was in Michigan I couldn't wait to get out and as far away as possible. Now that I'm older and (I hope) wiser I realize that MI had a lot to offer, namely my family whom I miss so much! Actually Michigan is a beautiful state for the most part, I grew up in the SW part near K'Zoo and my family frequently went to the UP and to Lake Michigan. Growing up in a small town with lakes, rivers, parks, woods, places to run and play freely, what more could a kid ask for?

I think non-Michigan people make some pretty bad stereotypes about our state, its either super boring, filled with cornfields and rednecks, or its a run down factory city like people think Detroit is. The truth is that Michigan is an amazing underestimated state. I live in "cherry region", and in my opinion it's the most beautiful place on earth. The lake is just as awesome as any ocean without salt water, and the weather isn't always horrible ;) I live in a really touristy town, so I guess it kinda comes with the territory that its beautiful where I live lol. And it is somewhat true that there are boring run down farm towns, believe me, I've spent many road trips driving through them, but there are also many unique small towns that you'll fall in love with. I resent many of the Michigan stereotypes, we're just like the rest of you, except we call soda "pop" ;)

I love Michigan and have traveled extensively. One thing I did not know until recently that I heard on the Discovery channel is that Michigan ranks #1 in that it is the state that has the most summer / vacation homes for Americas richest people. I find it easy to believe.

I lived in Michigan for 7 years and I liked it alot. I met alot of great people! As far as how it stacks up against other places, the food is about the same. If you don't hunt or fish, there's less things to do, but there's plenty of lakes for swimming. I actually miss it alot and am planning on moving back someday... mainly because I miss my friends and family that live there.

I think there are some beautiful places in Michigan. I wouldn't mind having a summer home there. My husband has family on the west side of Michigan north of Grand Rapids. The farm is absolutely awesome.
