Great question. So many people spend so much of their time fighting to not be like their parents. When, if you look at it as you've suggested, by qualities, it empowers us to accept and reject qualities or characteristics that work or don't work with our individual personality types.
Top three Qualities from my folks?
Mom
1. courage
2. respect for heritage
3. sense of equality among all
Dad
1. strive for wisdom
2. ability to see alternatives
3. Honor

Freedom to do what I want to. It is their biggest gift to me and my life. I will give this gift to my children.
