companies are snooping into people's private lives by making them take nicotine tests and fire them if they have any nicotine in their body. I do not support smoking in any way, shape or form, but i believe people should be allowed to do what they want in their own homes as long as it's legal, and that includes smoking, and some companies are now even snooping into their employee's spouses lives. In addition to this in many states companies can fire you for any reason they want including what kind of car you drive, what you drink, even what kind of TV you watch. this is as discriminatory as it gets. there should be laws that would prevent companies from firing people based on their private lives. People who may be very hardworkers can be fired because they live their private lives in a way that does not match the preference of the companies.

We are a bunch of wimps! The places we work should not have the ability to track our privet life's, but because no one will stand up for their rights, companies do anything they like. Drugs tests are an invasion of our most personal property, our body! WE allow companies to tell us to pee in a cup in front of a stranger because no one will stand up! WE allow these violations of respect and privacy, and can only blame ourselves.
We can justify anything by national health costs. Should we ban McDonalds because they sell fat foods? Should we monitor heavy people and make them not eat candy? Nicotine in the form of tobacco is legal, and is not the business of employers. Where does this stop? Do we allow companies to fire us if we are over weight, or what about being a different skin color? Stand up people!

Hey as long as you know what the rules are going into the job you have no reason to complain. If you have been hired. You can be fired. And you don't get to make the rules. If you are union-- You still don't get to make the rules. You just have two sets of people telling you what you can and can't do.

As far as the nicotine testing goes- Why should they have to pay high health care costs for your habit that can cause illness.

"In addition to this in many states companies can fire you for any reason they want"

Yep that's right. Most of the time it's the least enthusiastic, lowest skilled. Unless it's a union place in which it's who ever have been there the shortest time reguardless of skill level and work ethic.

" including what kind of car you drive, what you drink, even what kind of TV you watch."

Where did you hear that BS? Take it up with the ACLU.

I didn't know you could get fired for doing something legal!

Companies get away with murder, every single day, and you just watch then do it!!

We have the best Congress that corporations can buy, and that includes the Supreme Court!!

Yes! Smoking, health issues, insurance... follow the money... smokers miss more work due to illness... the company is watching it's bottom line. More power to them. You have the option to work elsewhere. It's not discriminatory... it's called "Employment at Will".

He who has nothing to hide, hides nothing.

I really don't think that they should, but they do anyway, look how BUSH TRIED TO JUSTIFY HOW HE EAVESDROPPED ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, it's really sick but they'll find a way to legalize the injustice of it all. Doesn't that just pisses you off!
