Philosophically a leopard can change it's spots. If that leopard leaped into a fire and burned all of his skin past the epidermis his spots would probably not return. His skin would be permanently altered. ..just like if he jumped into a permanent pond of black paint that could not be removed. My point is any thing can be altered physically. I am African American, if I had third degree burns all over my body, my natural color would not return (I am very dark brown now) after healing I would be spotted here and there but it would be that lighter pink color that exists under our pigmentation. On a positive note, this explanation could be used to explain that people that do bad things can change and alter their behavior with effort and determination. So, in conclusion, both figuratively and literally a leopard can change it's spots with effort and the right action. . .

why can you not ask a question that is either in the singular or the plural and not both?

Why cant a leopard change it's spots?
or
Why cant leopards change their spots?

And can you not check your spelling first?

Assuming you mean LEOPARDS (plural, remove the a in front of the word) and THEIR, then it's an easy question. We are who (what) we are and it's ingrained in us.

Just like, "once a cheater, always a cheater."

Fur-patterns are set--that area of the skin will grow hair that color only.
Thus, no spot-changing unless their skins are damaged and the hair grows in white.

Same reason we can't change our eye-colors on command.

Why can't you turn yourself black? Pigmentation. You can never change that. (unless you're a chamelion)
Come on, stop flooding the boards with pointless questions.

Its genetic....its similar to why you cant change your skin color without artifical means (even the sun, etc..)...(that is you cant say I want darker skin and you will have darker skin from like pale white)

It's never occurred to them to go to a hairdresser and dye their hair.
