It has been a long, hard and painful fight to free woman from the power of men, and it seems to me that the abortion issue is a woman's issue. A woman should have power over her own body except in case of mental illness or something like that which might keep her from having real free will for herself.
I know that society has tried to illuminate exclusive memberships in terms of the general public, but then private associations do not have to abide by general rules of law when it comes to membership, so why should woman have to abid by rules created by men when it comes to childbirth and their own bodies?
It seems to me that government prohibitions of various types have been a failure, like drugs and alcohol, prostitution male and female, police membership or even now the military and combat exposures for woman.
Cut out the religious arguments against abortion, and I don't see in civil reason why it should not be legal. Separation of Church and State should cover this exception.
All in all, the fact is that one way or another, abortions are going to happen. Bring them into the light of the law and lets regulate abortions for medical reasons.
One mans opinion is "give woman support over their own bodies."

Regulating abortion is NOT the same thing as telling people when and where to have sex (The sex has already been done at that point, so stopping abortion would not stop the sex.). Regulating abortion is simply telling people that they have to be responsible for their mistakes. What's wrong with responsibility?
If you assume that a embryo or fetus is a human being, then why should the innocent baby have to suffer for the mistakes of the parents? If you believe in woman's rights, then keep in mind that half of all the fetuses aborted are female !!! If a female fetus does not have the right to live, because she is being aborted, then what good does it do to give her the right to vote, work, etc. since she will never live long enough to exercise these rights?
Would I adopt children whom someone else didn't want? Well, every child who is up for adoption is a baby that the biological parents did not want, so I don't see the difference between that and the current situation.
I've heard people's arguments that it is better for an unwanted fetus to be aborted, rather than to grow up abused & unloved, but do we really know that? There have been many people who have come from abusive or otherwise difficult backgrounds, but have overcame their difficulties and have lived very productive lives as adults. Some of these people have benefited society immensely as a result of their work. Had they been aborted, our society would have never reaped the benefit of their lives' work.
PS: Speaking of no one having the right to "play God" with other people's lives -- as the person above me has mentioned -- isn't taking the life of a fetus (abortion) the ultimate way to "play God", since you are deciding if someone else (the fetus) has a chance to live out her life or not?
PPS: I agree with the people that stated that abortion should not be used as simply another form of birth control (which it currently is). If you don't want a baby, there are so many other alternatives -- condoms, pills, no sex, etc. Obviously, some abortions are necessary if carrying the baby to term would unduly put the life of the mother at risk (all births are slightly risky to the mother, but some, like tubal pregnancies -- will never carry to term and obviously pose an unacceptable risk, so they would be justified).

I think that abortion should be illegal but I think that there are some necessary exceptions to that rule such as if the pregnancy could harm the mother or if it is a child conceived through rape. In those two cases I believe that it should be up to the mother if she would like to have an abortion or not.
I do not think that this is governing any ones personal life. I think with common sense that abortions wouldn't be necessary. Use a condom...take a pill...don't have sex...pick one all can prevent unwanted pregnancies.
There are so many couples in this world that cannot have their own children who would love to adopt an unwanted baby.
The bottom line is an innocent baby shouldn't have to pay for the mistake of a careless mother.

I strongly disagree with a partial birth abortion. That's too late in the pregnancy. However, I do agree with abortion earlier in the pregnancy. There are too many children in this country, let alone the world, that are either unwanted or not cared for. Why should women be forced to bring another child into the world that they don't want or can't care for? At the same time, I feel people should be better educated about safe sex so they can do their part in preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first place.

I am glad abortion is legal. We get to make all sorts of choices in our lives and this should always be one of them. For those who disagree, maybe there should be an organization that has screened people on a list that will (if can be done by law) house, feed, and completely support a woman who is pregnant so they may have the child and give up to them for adoption. That might end some of it, but some women just do not want to go through the pregnancy, and yes they could have avoided it, but it is too late. They deserve the choice.

Oh no.not again!!!
The termination of a pregnancy is legal and should remain so!
No one on this planet is God and no one has a right to judge someone in a personal matter as this.
We won't support the kids who are born!
We won't support the kids when they are abused by parents who don't want them!
We won't pay foe any services until it is so bad that the damage is done!
You complain about people on welfare all the time, one suggested killing them!
You won't provide birth control or sex education for kids! Parent's always say they should learn it at home, many do when they are sexually abused.
Even the Catholic Church didn't have an issue with abortion until they changed their minds, and it wasn't on moral grounds!!
I don't like wackos in my bedroom!!

I don't think i have the right to govern people's personnal lives, but i do think that it is my right to believe that murder is wrong. I really don't understand how someone would believe that abortion is ok.
I mean, it is murder, just because that baby isn't born yet doesn't mean that anyone has a right to kill them (or as you may want to look at it, take their life).
Those kids could have been the kids that were going to grow up and find a cure to cancer.
There are other ways to not have to raise your kid if you don't think you are ready. I mean there is adoption, parents help, or they could atleast try to raise their own kids. My sister in law is one of the coolest, nicest, prettiest girls i know. She was adopted when she was little, but her mom wanted to have an abortion. If her mom had made that choice, she wouldn't be her, and i wouldn't have my niece (her daughter). and my brother (her husband) wouldn't be as happy as he is, because she wouldn't be here.
I mean, before someone chooses to have an abortion, they should consider (even though the baby isn't fully developed yet) what that baby has the potential to grow up to be.

Yes, I think abortion should be illegal! No matter what! Abortion is just a nice word for murder. Because that is what abortion is. Murder. It would be the same as if you went up to someone on the street and stabbed them. Those unwanted children should be given up for adoption to couples who want children but are unable. And I don't think that making abortion illegal will govern your life. It will protect those little voices that can't speak for themselves. If you aren't ready to face the consequences, than you aren't mature enough to do the act!

I do not agree with abortion. At all ever. I feel like there are many people out there who would love to have a baby that you do not want to take care of.
I feel like in cases where it was someone not being responsible or a teenager they made the bed now they need to lay in it.
In cases of rape etc there are always other options.
My look at it is God blessed me with a child who am I to turn it away?
On the other hand a lot of people feel differently and though I may not agree with them I do not judge them. It is not my position to judge.

to have children or to go for abortion is the right of the woman. but however in some cases, the doctor's advice is to be taken . if the doctor says aborting may cause major problem to mother, then one should not go for abortion otherwise, at the cost of repetition, i reiterate that abortion is the prerogative of woman and no body including her husband has right to say any thing against her wishes
