One thing to remember about older movies is that a lot of times they were revolutionary FOR THEIR TIME. At the time, taxi driver was considered ultra violent, nothing like anyone had seen before. Also, Jodi Foster was like 12 or 13 when she played that prostitute role, it showed her to be quite a young talent to play such an adult role.
