i have never had to take pills routinely, but because of arthritis, i will now. i don't want to have to carry my pill bottle around (i feel like the tic-tacs guy from seinfeld) and often times i have forgotten it at work or home. any helpful ideas to introduce it into my routine would be appreciated.

Try setting your cell phone alarm to go off whenever it is time to take a dose. They also make several different kinds of pill cases (believe me, I think we've tried them all!) so you're sure to find one that is right for you. We use one that has seven individual cases (one for each day) that sit in a tray that we keep on the dresser. Every individual case, has four compartments marked "AM, NOON, PM, and Extra". You can divide your doses up for the week and in the morning grab a case to take with you to work or wherever. Always leave extra doses at the places you frequent most (work, family member's houses, etc.) so you are sure to never miss a dose if you happen to forget the case. It can be very hard to remember, so if you have someone who can help you, ask them to! Good luck

Granny, I was once acquainted with a young lady, a elementary school teacher, who said her car ran just as well on the old gas as the new gas and she also was happy because the old gas was cheaper. I was somewhat puzzled and wondered if I had missed something or misunderstood. I asked her for more detail and how she knew the difference in the age of gasoline. She said " Well, it tells you right on the front of the gas pump at the gas station. Haven't you ever seen the 86 and the 92 and 93 on the pumps ? " That is why " Take orally" and " Take by mouth " is part of the dosage instructions. That school teacher probably takes a prescriotion drug from time to time. It would not surprise me to learn that she followed the advice of some bright person who said that an aspirin is a very good birth-control pill if you hold one in-between your knees.

Or do you have a watch with an alarm on it? A cell phone with a canlender? If so, most phones, you can put in a date and time, and then have it repeat it however many times you need. Like you may put in a time for tomorrow for 8 A.M. Then you could turn the repeat on for daily and every day it would go off on 8 A.M. Then you could set it for another time and do the steps again. I am not saying you have to set it for 8 A.M. but that was just for an example.

But I know what you mean. I have a hard time remembering to take pills, unless I am in pain or something that reminds me. But being in pain is no fun. So I hope this helps.

I was given a meds box as a present, it's got the days of the week along one long side and transparent sliding sticks that open up to 4 compartments per day. For me it's great, open the first AM when I make my tea and the second after dinner, I used to need all 4 but have got much better. You can't go wrong, if the pills not there you had it if it is you forgot so take it quick!

Some time back when I had to take a lot of medications regularly without fail.. I used those little boxes with the SMTWTFS on the lids... but... I also modified some.. for the times of the days that I needed to take some of those that were not just one time a day... like pain-preventative medicines.. every 4 hours... and you tend to forget whether you took them or not... and some every 2 hours to prevent infection... etc...

they sell those boxes at WalMart or just about any store with a pharmacy...

oh... and.. I also printed out a checklist with little check boxes... just to be certain.. because some of the drugs did a number on my memory... it was hard to tell if I had taken my pills the hour before or not... so I had it in writing.

Set an alarm clock for the times you want to take your pills. When it goes off, you'll know it's time.

Taking your medicine at the same time every day, say, breakfast would get you in the habit of associating orange juice and medicine.
