My son was in a bad car accident 6 years ago which left him without a right arm , traumatic brain injury , left side paralysis and requires total care with all self care skills. I also have a 13 year old son with downsyndrome who won't talk anymore and my husband left us when we needed him the most. Now he's seeing another woman but was coming to see me 2 to 3 times a week 2 months ago. Now he's pressuring me for an out of court divorce. We've been married 13 years but together 15. He not giving me as much alimony since he started seeing her and it hurts so much knowing he's with someone else. I can't even imagine being with anyone else now. I can't even leave the house except for short trips to the grocery store.

Have you ever heard of the woman whose babay was trapped under the car and she was able to lift it do to the adrenaline? Well the thing is thats how depression works. If your serotonin and dopimine levels are low you become depressed, it also works in the reverse, if you are depressed for a reason, your serotonin and dopimine levels drop.

The question is are you depressed or are you sad? Depression is more than an emotion. When a person is depressed they feel more sluggish, tired, and irritable then usual. They loose energy and sometimes find it hard to complete every day jobs such as cleaning or even waking up on time. They feel down, listless, hopeless. This is depression. However if you feel hurt and confused and cry because you have every right to, this is sadness.

If you answered yes to most of the depression questions then yes you have a chemical imbalance in your brain.

To answer your first question, yes, it is possible for there to be a chemical imbalance in your system. An endocronologist should be able to diagnose that.

Now as far as your husband is concerned you cannot afford an out of court settlement unless he is providing adequately for all 3 of you. He cannot lower his support due to another woman. In court he will be socked for alimony, child support, and medical support for you and the children. He needs to realize this or otherwise your lawyer may have to convince him (if you settle out of court). Otherwise, the judge WILL convince him and back it up with the power of the court. That will not be so nice for him. He needs to pay up.

I am extremely sorry your marriage is breaking up. He should be a man and stick with his responsibilities and his wife.
