When you're at Lechmere, you can take the D line train leaving the station. The other lines (B,C,E) won't get you to the Newton Highlands stop. But the D line will. Just wait for the right train to come and you should be all set. The Newton Highlands stop is the fourth from last.

Take the D Line--Lechmere is the end of the green line, so just get on any D line train, and it will take you there.

Grab any car to Government Center, take a "D" RIVERSIDE train.
