The laws pertaining to divorce vary greatly state to state. You are in for more work than you know.
If you have children, any sigificant property, or you and your soon to be ex disagree on ANYTHING, filing yourself will probably cost you more money in the long run than filing without an attorney. The reason is.. if you have children, there are a number of steps that you MUST comply with in order to file, and further, in order to get the divorce. These include, (but are not limited to) income information, child support calculation, parenting classes, etc. The forms for this are *sometimes* available on court websites, but often they are not.
If you and your spouse disagree, the chances are he/she will go get a lawyer. You will then either be facing someone who knows the law and how to use it to his/her client's advantage, or you will have to hire a lawyer to continue the case for you.
If you screw something up, even unintentionally, you may end up having to hire a lawyer to fix it. You could end up paying the attorney more than you would have paid in the first place.
I strongly recommend that you hire an attorney. If you don't know an attorney, contact your local or state bar association for an attorney.

You would have to go to the Court and get a petition for dissolution first. Its alot of work without a lawyer tho. Alot of couples share lawyers and one or both pay the attorneys fees.

If you really want to get screwed by your wife (who I guarantee, WILL get a lawyer), you can just go to the county courthouse and file. But you're an idiot if you try without a lawyer. If you don't believe me, ask my father.

go to the supreme court, file as a poor person, get accepted, and fill out the paper work. have your spouse served. if you have money then it is a fee of 300 to file for a number and fill out your paper work. it takes about 8 months to get divorced.

It's not fun!..you really have to do your homework to get the right paperwork together...if you think it will be a simple one where you both basically don't argue over posessions and part ways..there are places that charge a few hundred dollars and do most of the paperwork for you.

That would probably be a big mistake unless you and your spouse have no assets and no children.
