Egg. Why? Evolution!

The bird creature laid an egg, and the first chicken came out of it.

I would think it would have to be the egg. Some animal laid an egg with some kind of mutant in it, and out came a chicken.

If we go back to the beginning of life itself, there was of course one celled microbes, so the question is...when life began, what did it look like?...life began with simple one celled microbes transformed from inorganic material to become organic matter probably through a combination of chemical reaction and electricity. Eventually they learned how to subdivide, so to answer your question i would have to say the chicken came first.
