Check classified ads, various theatre guides and things like that, if you live in a big city there are often publications that list available parts for both stage and screen and audition times. Craigslist.com is a good online classified site for that sort of thing. Outside of major cities there isn't a lot of acting work

Depending on where you live different areas send out audition call magazines such as "Callboard" in The Sanfransisco bay area

The Stage newspaper specifically covers Theatre stuff. It has pages for training, recruitment and classified :-)

It depends where you are. Los Angeles is the place for US movies.

Traditionally actors check out trade papers like "Variety". These days you can find notices online.
