There's a book out there called "What to Eat when you're expecting" that gives some great advice on what to eat and avoid when you're pregnant, and how to maximize the nutrition in your food without eating too many calories. It also has some pretty good recipes. It's a little strict, but it will give you a good basis to work from. Good luck! :)

I was already overweight when I got pregnant so I asked the same question to my doctor. He said it's never a good idea to "diet" during pregnancy since your baby will need the calories. He did, however, suggest cutting out the junk food. I've only gained 15 lbs this time and only have 2 weeks to go. I tried to eat healthy during my pregnancy but did enjoy some junk food at times. I'd say, as long as you eat in moderation and get some light exercise, your weight should stay under control.

First, continue to make healthy food choices. Stick to the fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and vegetarian proteins, whole grains, just like you would if you were not pregnant. Especially in pregnancy, you need the vitamins and nutrients of such foods, and eating healthier foods means you consume less calories with the same bulk.
Next, exercise within your means. If you were exercising before you got pregnant, you can continue as long as nothing is jarring or jolting and it doesn't make you feel sick. If you were not exercising before you got pregnant, you can walk or do very light exercise for the first trimester and increase very gradually after that, probably tapering again in the last two months.
If you do those two things, that should significantly affect the amount of weight that you gain.
Do not try to loose weight during pregnancy without your doctor's approval.
And, if you bring this up with your doctor at your next visit, he or she might have some suggestions specific to your lifestyle that could be helpful.

Just make good food choices... eat healthy foods, not foods with a lot of calories but little or nutrition. It's okay to snack on the things you might crave now and then (ice cream, chocolate, etc) but do this only when you have made some good choices for the day. The best rule of thumb is to make as many food choices you can from foods that have not been processed (whole foods) such as frash fruits, vegetables, and grains. Low fat foods, sometimes mean they are higher in sugar, so steer clear of low-fat because it doesn't always mean it's a good or better choice. Try not to eat a lot of prepared foods (frozen, canned etc) because even if you don't notice this in the taste, they are usually high in sodium. Eat lean meats (I am am vegetarian so I didn't eat any meat at all during pregnancy and my baby was healthy). Best wishes!!

Please, please communicate to your physician approximately this. in accordance to what i've got study and what my physician has instructed me, pregnant women could under no circumstances be on a weight-help plan! I thoroughly understand that having 2 infants close jointly takes a toll on your physique image, yet deliver it to suggestions additionally takes a substantial toll on your finished physique. the two infants choose you to be wholesome precise now. a greater effective decision than weight-reduction plan is workout, it is wholesome for the period of being pregnant, yet be sure you clean your habitual with your physician first. additionally, once you're pregnant, remember you in straightforward terms choose an added 3 hundred energy an afternoon, which isn't plenty, and once you're nursing, in straightforward terms approximately an added 500. in case you're no longer already, you may initiate preserving music of what you consume. the main considered necessary factor so which you could do is stop beating your self up over this. being pregnant and childbirth motives a woman's physique to circulate by some substantial hormonal and actual differences. besides, what you have going for you is your height, so i'm beneficial you seem plenty greater effective than you think of you do.

Just don't make pregnancy a free-for-all. Sure, you can have pizza or a burger here and there, but pregnancy isn't a free pass to eat crap day and night.
If anything, you baby needs good, healthy foods!
Walk or do moderate exercise, and you'll both be fine.

Eat healthy. Pregnancy is NOT the time to be thinking about losing weight, think of the health of your baby and once he/she gets here then you worry about losing weight.

Don't eat foods high in sodium...sodium will make you retain water. Don't eat a lot of junk food...just try to eat healthy foods (look for foods high in folic acid, calcium, and iron). You can achieve healthy weight gain as long as you don't over-indulge.
