Possibly greed comes from a primordial desire to not die. Our ancestors were probably the animals that managed to get the most - no matter how much waste it may have caused. So they bit off more than they could chew, more than they needed. Could have been simple miscalculation - or could have been survival technique.
Now that we are in a position to rule everything, and are proceeding with a mind-boggling effort to blow ourselves up, that primitive survival technique could mean the end of us entirely. We bite off more work than we can do, because somebody else might get the contract. We bite off more meat than we can chew - usually because we are eating in such a hurry. The only biting that does not seem to harm us immediately is taking more than we need of time to think, which very few of us do.
This is a good question. I await other answers.

I don't know if there is an answer to this.May be it depends on the person, one might take too much where as another may take too Little.I do know that if you try to eat 16 cookies in one go it's best to move your head around so that gravity enables you to chew a little at a time, but if the chocolate chips melt and stick to the roof of your mouth you've had it.

That phrase usually refers to taking on too many activities so that you can't complete all of them not putting food in your mouth. Another expression is too much on your plate meaning the same thing. That you have taken on more than you can handle.

well, your mouth can take in lots of stuff, but when it actually comes to chewing, your mouth is so full, that you really cant, so while you can take a big bite, you cannot actually chew it, this would apply to a real life situation.
