What made and still makes Marilyn Monroe so special?

It has been over 40 years since she was killed/died yet she still remains the most recognizabel movie icon ever! She only did a handful of films (7?) and yet her impact remains. The quality of her performances are unscathed.

What makes her so special to you? What does hse represent to you or the world?

X_CHYNADOLL_ => I agree with the size comment. They have changed. I saw an auction of her clothes (by Debbie Reynolds) and MM must have been about a size 6 on average. She may have gone up to an 8 at tiems or even a 4 at the end when she was pill addicted. But she was never HUGE in size.

I see all the comments about size and I have to point out that sizes have changed over the years. A size 6 was the smallest there was back then, but as the average woman's size has gotten larger, the way clothing is sized has changed. What was a 6 is now a 2 or something. So Marilyn wasn't as big as people like to think. She had a woman's body, with plenty of curves. As beautiful as she was though, that's not the only reason for her appeal. There were plenty of beautiful women then. To me Jayne Mansfield and Ava Gardner wer just as lovely, but Marilyn just had something about her that was so pure. With all she went through, she maintained an innocence about her. Another thing is the fact that we don't know what heights she would've reached had she lived. We're left to wonder about what she might have done. It all adds to her appeal and the reasons why so many people still love her.

I think that Marilyn Monroe is gorgeous and although she may of not had that much talent she just had a way with people.

Another reason why she is so beautiful is b/c she is a plus size most people dont realize that she was like a size 12 and not a size 1 like most actresses today.

first of all, she did more than 7 movies. She has an innocence combined with a smoking body. She had lots of talent. Just rent out Bus Stop and Some like it hot and the Misfits. She was a troubled individual, yet she was not like Anna Nicole. Yes some of her movies were not the best, but when she was on screen, she sparkled.

When most girls try to do that they look like, "sluts" (sorry) other girls would do that then they just look like "the girl next door". So it was rare that this women can pull this off all the time. Plus she symbolizes both types of women.

marylin monroe is the name nobody respects and everybody laughs at.her name is norma-jeane baker.her childhood was very complicated and her mother had psychological problems...
she became famous overnight...and i think she never got used to fame and all the interest of men.they abused her and she never knew who she can trust.who loves her,who wants to help her,or just use her...
but she always believed in people´s goodness,she always believed in love and she did her best not to dissapoint her mother,than her husbands,her directors...
i hope she is in heaven now and she is free and happy

i know she was like a sex goddess but she had an innocent's about her, if i think about her i just see the pic where her skirt got caught in the wind......she looked so innocent in that.
