ITS PRETTY MUCH ALL THE SAME SONG! whatsa matta wid you people? how many times can you listen to somebody tell you about selling drugs have sex and going to the club? is that the only thing that matter? i remember when it was all kinds of rappers...a tribe called quest, queen latifah, the pharcyde, the alcoholics, even the fresh prince. now its all the same t.i., slim thug, jezzy, whats that idiot that sings its going down. what happen to showmanship? to m.c.ing? the only people in the game making money doing something different is the black eye peas and eminem.people seem totally happy with one sided music and thats sad.

I am extremely glad someone has brought this up. I am a lead singer in a band, and so for me, all music toutches me in some way. I do notice, however that rap and R&B in general is getting pretty lazy. As long as you know someone big in the genre, then you're set for life. You seem to be able to just rant about whatever you want and have someone put a beat to it. I do like older Outkast, Atmosphere, Eminem, Dre and NWA. They set the pace for being different where conformity is the easiest way to go. Now, the general public is so driven by the small amounts of music that they hear on the radio, they can't know any better. If you put yourself in a position where you only hear about 4% of all music that is being played, then you're not going to know that there is a difference in style, complexity, and originality. You can't blaim the new rappers for going with what sells. The public and listeners to the music will have to change and pull away from the conformity of their style of music before the changes will be made on their end. Not an easy thing to do given the music industry is telling you what you will hear.

Are you even listening to the lyrics? if you know anything about T.I. he does not rap about drugs and sex all the time. instead of thinking one way why don't you sit down and listen to the mans CD before passing your judgment. and the man that sings its going down in young joc who's CD is actually good too. And the other rappers you mention who only rap about drugs, sex and going to the club have good Cd's also and they all rap about other things. As for the rappers back in the day they had their time. Now its time for some new people to shine. don't get me wrong not all the rappers are great but there are some good ones its just a new style. Remember when these rappers are making their songs they are based on their personal life. So if you not in the club or doing drugs or selling it or even from where they are from you are not going to like their music. I will end this by saying that their music is like book you are reading about their life through their words, so remember we don't always like what we read or hear.

It's not all the same song to me. When I listen to Jack Johnson or rock like that it all sounds the same to me, or metal. It is just a different style of music that you obviously don't like but many many people do. I agree that right now rap is in a slump, no good albums for months, but I love the genre as a whole. And I'd vote for Sean B for Best Answer personally.

You could say that about any music on pop radio. No matter what genre it is - hiphop, "alternative" rock, metal, r&b - it all sounds like the flavor of the moment. There's plenty of good hiphop out there, it's just not the stuff you here on top 40 radio. Check out some of the more underground/political stuff:
The Coup
Dead Prez
dangerdoom
Asheru (does the music for Boondocks)
The Roots
Heck, just start here: http://www.myspace.com/thecoupmusic
and check out groups they mention. Some seriously great stuff being made by artists with both SENSE and STYLE.

I agree. I am tired of all of the bragging - who cares about your bling and how many ho's you got or your grill or the size of your dubs? I keep waiting for another Tupac to rap about social justice. "Keep Your Head Up" is a classic and hasn't been matched yet.

Here comes the sh!tstorm!!!!
I asked a serious question about rap and got attacked.
Rap has sucked *** since puffy took over and it was all about bling. before that rap was ABOUT something. It asked questions about society. now (mostly) its about "smack that ho and rock that ice, sell that rock to your own people. it's all about you."
I love rap. but not anymore. now it's strictly metal for me. at least I can't understand when the lyrics are stupid. ;)
