Because they've read the part of the Bible where it says 'homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord' and managed to miss the parts in the same chapter where it says that some equal abominations are shrimp, polyester, and shaving.
EDIT: Also, this. I didn't write it, just as a disclaimer.
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
8.5)The Bible says gay marriage is wrong, just like eating pork, shaving your head, and having a bowel movement without washing your body and clothes and consulting a priest is wrong. Of course, nobody does that.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

>>>Look up the deffinition in the dictonary. It doesn't say is has to be between a man and a women<<<
Actually, marriage IS defined as a union of one man and one woman by state law in 45 out of 50 states. That counts for a lot more than what the dictionary says.
Besides, if "two people who love each other" is the only sufficient thing to call it a "marriage," then what's to stop two siblings from getting married? Or a parent and child? Or a grown man and a 10-year-old girl? Or a live person and a dead one?
Taking that a bit further, why stop at two people? Why not extend it so that three or more people can all marry each other?
This is a Pandora's box that we just don't want to open.
As with every moral issue, "gay marriage" is an issue that should be put to the states -- and in every state where it's been put to a vote, even in very liberal Oregon, it has lost and lost big.
That's because most Americans, while agreeing that gays should be treated with dignity and respect, find that the idea of two men or two women marrying each other is, frankly, just too strange.
And there's no comparing "gay marriage" to interracial marriage, which was once banned in many states many years ago.
Interracial couples -- such as me and my fiancee -- never wanted to change the fundamental man-woman union of marriage.
We simply wanted the same opportunity to enter into this MAN-WOMAN UNION that same-race couples had.
"Gay marriage" proponents often compare their cause to interracial marriage -- but there is NO comparison because the former seeks to change the fundamental man-woman nature of marriage, while the latter does not and never did.

Because they feel the bible is in the right, and that the bible is incorruptible since it's God's Word. Ironically, the Bible has been translated many times by many people from the original word and each translation is stated a bit differently. The KJV states that marriage is between a man & a woman. So, what made King James' translators the final determination? Or, was it based on THEIR beliefs and not on what they claim is "God's Will"? Personally, while the Will of God is in the Bible, I believe it's more firmly hidden in the Bible and not the way the Bible has been politically translated or written. And, I believe that "Love thy Neighbor as Thyself" should be the Law, as it's stated in the New Testament. Regardless of sexual orientation. P.S. I'm bisexual.

Because they are all afraid of change, as many have stated already. The human race hates change, and yet, we are changing everything around us. The human race is a mistake and at the same time the perfect creation. Now, if people want to use the Bible, fine, go ahead. "Love your neighboors as yourself." The Bible cannot express and state that more clearly. Now, if being gay is an abomination, then why does the Bible say that? People, the whole wolrd, is afraid of change and is not willing to change but by force. Why do you think we have two world wars, why do you think we're fighting a pointless war in Iraq? Change is something no one in the world will want to accept except by brute and utter force. The world is ignorant and naive.

I would like to see equal rights for everybody. People should be true to themselves and love whoever they love, love is love. God is all about love. If two people of the same sex would like to get married and love each other then good. More power to them. The world could use more love.
Looks like this has gotten you stressed out a little. Don't worry about it so much, with education the ignorance should go away... I think. People just fear what they don't understand, and those people don't understand love.
Here is a bumper sticker I read that made me laugh on the subject: "If gay people get equal rights then everybody will want them." LOL. Have a good day.

I do not believe anyone has a right to tell anybody else who to marry. There was a time (not so long ago) that it was forbidden to marry anyone outside of your race. This is wrong, if you are in love with someone of your own sex, so be it, I say. And all that you should look at is that you are happy and content. I do not believe it is against God or Evil, I believe that the Lord wants us all to be happy and content. After all, we are here such a short time enjoy the time that the Lord has given you. I would have to say "ye without sin cast the first stone" I do not believe that anyone is without sin out there. But I do believe that every human being has a right to be happy, not matter who you choose to be happy with. God Bless

I agree. It is the same folks who promote 1 man + 1 woman = marriage, that are getting off to lesbian/gay porn behind closed doors. I don't get it. Maybe they are afraid they will discover the truth about themselves. There is just as much high risk behavior and infidelity in the str8 world just as there is in the gay world, so I don't know what the fuss is. Jesus taught us to love each other, no matter who we are. Love looks at the heart, not the anatomy. There are even animals who practice homosexuality, I don't think He's sending them to hell for that either.

Some people refuse to accept the separation of church and state. The rights given with marriage are by the state. Religion should have no say in the matter.
Some 'christians' preach anti-gay bigotry, discrimination and hatred, which incites people to violence. You're exactly right, their actions are very hypocritical and certainly against "judge not . . " and the teachings of Jesus. I wish they would try peace, udnerstanding, tolerance and love for a change. WWJD?

The biggest reason I think is that the Bible does specifically mention homosexuality in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
But I do have the same rant as you. I'm just stating from my experience what the main argument my christian friends tell me. At least they lay off after the first time that they "point it out" to me.

It's because many people are afraid of what they fear. And I don't believe that the bible should have any saying in who we are allowed to love. The bible is a book of myths and opinions, not real facts and being bisexual myself, I have nothing against same-sex marriage, I'm all for it. It's time for some change in the world.
