no. America (United States of) wouldn't have one of the highest per- capita gross domestic products if it was the laziest nation. Yes, there are a ton of lazy people. But there are a ton of highly motivated hard workers that more than make up for it. Your average american is not lazy.

In no way do I feel we are the laziest Nation.
Come on people work hard every day, to barely get by. This Nation is just put on the back burner so we can help everyone else.
I am so sick of hard working people in this country having to wonder if they will have enough money to eat, pay bills, get medication, have heat, be able to drive their cars to work.
Who helps those people? Helping should start at home, why are are tax dollars being spent for other countries, when we have such a great need her in America.
So yes Americans work very hard to survive !!

I think there is the biggest range between lazy and hard working in the U.S than any other country. There are those who are obsessed with working and being successful, those who strive to make this country better, and then there are those who don't work at all and take advantage of the system, knowing they can survive without working because of our welfare and charity programs. (Not everybody takes advantage of the system, but many do)
In some other countries, like third world countries, people will do anything just to be able to eat or feed their child that day.

No way there's a bunch of socialist countries in Europe that are lazzier.
"The French average seven weeks of paid vacation a year - two more than the country's labor laws stipulate. They work an average of 1,441 hours per year, compared with 1,661 hours for the British, and 1,824 for Americans, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reports. "

I don't know that france is the laziest but they sure seem lazzier then us. If I remember correctly there was recently riots in France to get their paid vaction laws increased.

I think yes generally Americans ARE getting lazier! We all have (for the most part) at least 1 vehicle. Hardly no kids ride their bikes or walk to school (not like what it used to be) The Internet, TV, and video games are making us lazier and lazier. I think every generation gets a little lazier that the one before it! Expanding waist lines are proof of that! Look 50 years ago,,, heck, even 20 years ago! Much more active and fit times than now! Unfortunately it is only going to get worse also I think.
Now I do understand that not all Americans are lazy, I am not trying to offend anyone... but generally yes we are. I consider our family to be quite active, we LOVE the outdoors, but I still think that even we are lazier than generations before us! Seems like everything has an easy button now days!

I don't think so. It's unfair to categorize a nation as a whole...especially in terms of laziness.
Are a lot of people lazy? Well, yeah, sure. That's the same for every damn nation you can think of.

No, of course not! Being how financially difficult to live in America is, you either work hard to pay the bills or fall off to the wayside and become homeless. We also have the normal (as in, the rest of the world) concept of leisure and we rightfully take full advantage of it.

I don't know about the laziest nation, but probably in the top 3.
In this day and age of sitting in front of your computer, sitting playing video games, sitting watching the TV, sitting in your car to order food, sitting in your car to do your banking, people are getting lazier.

I'm Canadian and honestly, I think this country is quickly catching up to you guys.
Sad but true!

People think we are because we are the fattest. This is only because we have enough food to go around. If you go to Pakistan they do not have Huge walmart supercenters ever exit. People do not do things inside. TH=hey play in the sun

maybe lazy in some ways.
too lazy to wait for the newspaper so we invent tv
too lazy to go find a phone, so we invent cell phones (no judgment on whether that's good or bad)
...remote control, quest for knowledge that took us to the moon, created numerous medicines & cures, computers, spell check, advances in mass transportation, on & on.
lazy? or laidback ambition?
