I got a sunburn on Saturday when we went to a water park. I believe it is a second degree burn because it looks like 2 or 3 blisters are forming. I'm burned on my face, shoulders, and a little on my back. My forehead seems to hurt worst and seems to be the worse part burned. If you''ve had a sunburn, then you know how you loose water through your skin, and your skin gets really oily and greasy. I know that most facial cleaners probably aren't good for sunburned skin, but I was wondering if unscented babywipes could be used to remove the excess oil and greasiness. I was thinking baby wipes because they are soft and the unscented kind seem to be good for sensitive skin.
Please don't tell me about how I should have used sunscreen because I did use sunscreen. I wore SPF 45 and reapplied it every 45 minutes. The problem was, I have skin that is really sensitive to heat AND the sun, so it didn't work like it should have.
Thanks for your help in advance.

actually the baby wipes might burn a little but wont hurt your skin.
If its really bad....use diaper ointment on the burn it will help dry out the blisters and protect the skin. Did it this weekend and took the burn right out of it.

NOOO! Baby wipes have a special 'soap' in them that may dry out your skin more(which is why you're not supposed to use them on a baby with diaper rash). Best thing to use is clear, cool water, and top it off with some after sun, or break an aloe plant and put some directly on your skin.
Use cool wet compresses for first 48 hours. baking soda or vinegar compresses are comforting. Do not use ice.
Cool oatmeal baths (Aveeno, etc.) may be helpful
NO lotions or petroleum jelly in the first 48 hours!! These hold in the heat!
Apply moisturizing lotions after 48 hours
Aspirin taken as directed on the label may help ease pain
Seek medical attention if fever, fluid-filled blisters, dizziness or visual disturbances are present
Do not use aspirin if you aren't 19 years old yet. It can cause reye's syndrome. If you are younger, simple tylenol will help.
Good luck

The best thing is a natural one, Aloe plant gel is best, taken directly from an aloe plant (break off a piece of the plant - the plant is a group of broad thick tubular leaves) gently dab the gel (clear jelly substance inside the leaf) onto the burn areas including blisters. Be sure to wash hands with soap and water first to avoid bacteria getting into any open blistered areas. Break open the leaf section and scrape off the gel to apply, or squeeze it directly from the leaf to apply.
The alternative is to purchase pure Aloe Vera gel from the drug store and proceed to do the same as above. Apply as needed. This soothes the burn and nourishes the skin which will promote a quicker healing process.
If you must use baby wipes ensure that they have Aloe in them...however because there may be alcohol in these as well it is best to not use them.
Good luck

Try aloe wipes and only blot the areas. If you wipe, they will cause possible minor abrasions. Also stick to a good brand, they tend to be thicker and softer, pampers is good. Sounds like you have second degree burns, make sure you drink plenty of water because you are still losing water. Also try taking a cool bath to relieve the burning, just be careful and not rub the skin. Try not to rupture and open the blisters and apply an aloe lotion.

I would not use baby wipes. I would just take a shower as usual, let it air dry and keep using Aloe Vera cooling gel. You can put clean, sterile gauze over it so air movement doesn't sting so much. I would avoid wiping it with anything at all costs, but that's just me.

Ouch! that must really hurt! well i guess the only way to find out is to try it on a little area where the sunburn is the least burnt.....also, i would prob. call/go see your doctor to make sure everything is fine and what to do...also ask your doctor ways to protect your skin next time or you will end up with wrinkles and maybe even cancer when you are older!

Try an aloe gel with Lidocaine in it (such as Solarcaine). This has a topical painkiller in it. Or you can try painkiller pills, preferably Advil (ibuprofen) because it acts as an anti-inflammatory to keep the swelling down and keep the edge off the pain. And turn your shirt inside-out so the seams don't rub your shoulders. :)
