we have a fireplace hearth that the last owners kids scribbled on - its like a concrete, I believe

Use hot water and scrub it off. The heat should melt the wax, and then use the scrubber to pick it up. If it smears, try hotter water. Good luck!

This hint is from eHow.com:

Remove crayon from hard porous surfaces like stone or concrete -- eHow Friend -- Spray 'N Wash applied with a toothbrush or a scrub brush (plus some elbow grease) worked great - without damaging the surface

Check the link below for lots of other hints about removing crayong marks. Not all are about concrete, but may be helpful anyway, or for the future. Good luck.

Place a paper bag on the crayon marks, iron the bag to get as much off as possible. Then use Goo Gone or a simular product. If you aren't too worried about scratching the surface, a wire brush might help. Maybe a stiff plastic brush would be safer. Good luck, crayon is really hard to remove!

Try a light oil, like WD 40, to loosen the wax. Then scrub with a strong detergent. I'm told gasoline will work too, but not around a fireplace!

Try the Mr. Clean magic eraser. That thing gets out stuff you wouldn't believe.

a stiff wire brush, like a grill brush. shouldn't be able to scratch the concrete

wd40 and a heavy scrubbing pad and hot water works nicely

murphys oil soap it will get candle wax out of your carpet too...:-)
