So, i was having lunch with a fellow friend of mine, we would usually read the newspaper, then argue about the issues occuring today. Anyways, today, they had so much emphasis on the war in the gulf region.
We as united states are said to support or aid israel in the conflict. What are our benefits for the support for israel exactly? The so-called war on terrorism? Or does it have to do with the hostility we have for the middle east region? Or maybe it could be because israel might be attacked in all four fronts? Even from all these reasons why, are we really looking for peace? I mean, think about, shouldn't we be disarming those countries and factions that arm the two countries in turmoil, instead of aiding the countries with more weapons to fight? And because i'm not going to accuse syria or iran that may or may not aid the war effort, maybe we should investigate into, as which country or faction is has the arms, and blockade them from delivering the weapons. If there are no weapons to fight, there would be no war, if we aid with more weapons, the war will continue and accelerate. I have no doubt that the staff of america have thought about that before, maybe Bush wants to let israel have this war, i mean, it's more then obvious that he has iran, and other middle east countries on his agenda to "control" the world in his excuse as so-called "war on terrorism".
I support our effort to get rid of terrorism, but is it worth it to have wars, and start killing innocent civilians just so we can feel the comfort of ridding terrorism? I mean, seriously, how can we get rid of terrorism completely, be realistic, of how many people in the world, it'll never happen as long as we have nationalism, and imperialism. Patriotism is great for a country, but it also create hostility against other countries, and the media isn't the only thing that creates it.
My point is, if you really wanted peace, you would stop the weapon delivering process insteading of aiding with more weapons for detruction, or all your talks about restraint on israel so it doesn't create mass murder is all bs. You wanted a war, and you know it! So just quit the fuaking bs, and tell us that. We as civilians have a right to know.
You know, there has been ideas that instead of having a war, maybe the leaders of the countries should be in a boxing ring, to box it out, instead of killing innocent people just because you don't like the leader.

Are you people that oblivious? Is your hatred for the middle east that great, that it hinders you to think of it rationally?
I agree that there are some civilians in israel can be extreme, but for those that aren't, are we suppose to kill them? I mean, not everyone in the world likes america, but you don't see them killing the civilians who voiced their concern for both the side of america, and the middle east. I mean, in 9/11 they did kill civilians, do you think they think we're innocent civlians, even if we side with them? Prehaps there are some against us, but for those that aren't, should they die too?

Bryn, if there is a war on terrorism, do you kill those that don't support you, or do you convince them? You see us killing all the middle east countries just because they don't agree with us? Did we have a meeting to convince north korea, or did we just go there and kill them because they have powerful missiles?

Jeanne, do you know anything? Have you ever even experienced hardship before? We may be living our life of luxury in america, but they're living in slumps, that maybe if they risk their lives for money, instead of their entire family dying, maybe only he will. You have to emphasize on how they feel, and look upon us, and themselves. Don't be so oblivious to the world.

Thomas I totally agree with you... I think that weapons are just fuel for the fire, I don't live in the US of A I'm Canadian so I think I have a totally different point of view on what's really happening. But alls I can say is Bush is out of control with this whole war on terrorism thing he's way out of line and I think he is just killing innocent people not only people from other countries but his own people the soldiers that are sent. Then whole thing is f*in ridiculous and I get heated just thinking about it. I really like the idea of having the leaders duke it out in a boxing ring!
Thanks for posting this question hopefully it'll get a lot of people thinking and give them some perspective on things.

Here's a common misconception, based on appearances.
It's not that the west is siding with Israel, but rather that the west is against terrorism. As it happens here, Hezbollah and Hamas are being funded by Syria and Iran, who have both stated that Israel needs to be wiped off the face of the earth.
These countries are instigating the terrorism, as well as funding it.
The west just wants to end the terror so that the common family in whatever country can live in peace without some "ego-terrorist" wanting to have some imaginary hold on power.
Don't blame the USA, or anyone else in the west for the machinations of these despot power brokers.
I have to add that I'm a Canadian, and therefore I don't vote in the USA, but am still part of "the West". Not all Canadians are against a common-sense cause of trying to do away with "Bully" terrorists. This isn't about Bush trying to control the world, it's about the terrorists who were NEVER elected oppressing these regions with fear and hate.
That's who the bully is and if you ever doubt that, just put yourself into the poor ignorant peoples' place who are being bullied and cowed into doing whatever it takes to just get food for a day, or shelter. You obviously have never had do concern yourself anymore than to discuss it over a nice "lunch" with a buddy. These people live it every day. It's not an option for them, it's their lives that they're having to fight for and live under these bullies.
Yes, you're absolutely wrong!

Are you retarded or are you really Tom Hanks. Cuz then its ok.
But no, you make absolutely no sense (and the two negatives are appart). The reason you do not make sense is due to the fact that you have absolutely no idea of what is going on.
Your wrong.
The guns that are supplied to Israel are necessary, because if they did not have the guns, the arabs would outnumber them 20 to 1, which means they would be olbiterated.
After WWII, the US decided to pat the jews on the back after all the injustice they had endured and give them a place to be, defending them, seeing it as justice. They had to give them guns, because if they did not, all arab states would invade them and kill them.
I think it was a bad idea to put the zionists in Jerusalem, they should have placed them in Angola, at least there they would not have shared animosity toward them on all sides---it was like leaving them in a lion's den--
obviosly their going to need weapons.
The real question, is whether Israel over-reacted? but who are we to judge? They are defending their land and they need to be hard-liners to survive--Otherwise the arabs take over and kill them. This is why the solution is to do the following:
give the Isralites Nebraska, American passports and 200 billion dollars, then you shut them up. Then you give Israel back to the arabs, so they calm down, and you internationalize jerusalem because its not only an important icon for judaism, but for christianity and islam as well---and then the muslims love us for recognizing the "jewish injustice" the jews love us for giving them "a place on this earth" saving their asses (next hundred years) and giving them all that money...
wham! world peace.
this will not happen however, until the region goes nuclear, which will probably happen in 20 years time---or maybe aroudn the corner since Iran just used the attacks on Israel as a distraction to bypass the UN due date for sanctions on its nuclear program so it could build its nuclear bomb and annhailate Israel.
I have no doubt Israel has taken this into account and will bomb their nuclear labs with air-strikes if necessary.
ANSWER TO YOUR ANSWER:
I fear I am giving you much more credit than you deserve, but I have nothing to do right now and I am super bored
Hanke, your answer about the holy land has nothing to do with what you were originally talking about...yea, I could not know anything about why Moses went there, or why they call it the holy land---it would still make no difference to the present typeversation.
your thesis is basically that the US is arming Israel and the arabs and then saying that Israel should excercise restraint, and this is hypocritical, because if they did not want a war, they would not supply the weapons, correct?
This is a good logical experiment but is flawed on many aspects. First, the weapons are a fallout of the cold war, which were fueled by Russia and the USA---the weapons were already there. The US simply kept supplying Israel to keep them up-to date, because otherwise, if they had a rotting military base like Syria and Iran, they would be invaded. It is a defense precaution. You ask why Syria and Iran would invade? very simple= they hate jews and especially Israel. Second, the US did not WANT this war, it did not "plan" it for control of Syria and Iran. They (gaza, lebanon fueld by Iran and Syria) started to randomly shoot scud missiles into Israel and capture soldiers, this CAUSED the Israeily reaction, you can call it an over-reaction, whatever--it was a reaction. The US supplies them weapons to defend themsevles because THEY ARE ALREADY under attack. \
Third, the US said ISRAEL should excercise restraint due to the over-reaction in Gaza where many civilians were killed and life became unbearable---The US did not say this BECAUSE it wanted a war, and was acting hypocritically in order to hide the fact that it secretly wanted the Israelites to invade and get rid of terrorists for them....can you not see that this is convoluted thinking? THE ARABS ATTACKED FIRST---it was not PLANNED.
They did not plan this. Although they might like it. And furthermore, the US said this to mitigate media pressure that the jews were over-reacting and the US does not do anything by letting the jews do whatever they want.
You say why did the arabs attack?
Two reasons,
Iran (Hamas faction) told Hezbolla to fire in order to delay sanctions and complete its nuclear program.
Iran, Syria, Hezbolla and Gaza do not like Israel.
and furthermore, its not just the leaders that do not like each other, its the peoples and the sentiment in the region.
The different people do not like each other. Arabs do not like jews because of random air-raids that destroy families and because of their histories, and jews do not like arabs because of their hostility,
it is the mutual hostility between the PEOPLES that caused this war, not just the leaders.
leaders come and go, even if they went into a "boxing match."
if you recall history about your country, the US, leaders are supposed to be REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE.

I'll be one that sides with you, however, I believe that you have left out the major reason why many nations include ours support Israel. Even when people cannot agree on what they believe, the LORD has promised those who protect "His People," the children of Israel, there are great blessing in store for them. George W. Bush and George Bush and basically any republic president elected into office are warmongers and see innocent casualties as a misfortune but a necessary ill. I think they are immensely evil.
Peace.

Its not that simple, nor that complex. It's all about the $$. Politicians want their 'power', they will tell you what they think you want to hear. They don't care what you want, they just want their 'power'. Another point is that the USA was founded on the principle of freedom of religion. Meaning that the Anglo Roman Catholic religion was causing too much trouble. So they came here. Now we are a country of mostly Christians, and Israel is mostly Jews. One thing we can agree on is that we pretty much sort of recognize the same diety. But the Muslims seem to think that both of us are infidels and must be eradicated. So we know that Israel needs our assistance, cause we'll be next if we allow muslims to wipe out Israel.

Thomas you are both right and wrong. you can't allow people who do not value life, including their own, free reign. they do not see civilians as innocent. they see them as targets. we need to do what we can to break their back. stopping the arms from getting to them is part of it. making it a sure thing that they will have a short life if they become a terrorist is part of it. as long as there are people in the world you will have a few who think that they have the only true way to live and want to force everyone else to live that way. there will always be someone who wants to take over the world. we have to fight them, or they will take over the world, and you will no longer have the right to gripe and complain like you are doing now, instead of being grateful for what you have, and the people who have died so that you could be free...... think about it.

Put all these leaders on an island by themselves and only let them get off the island when they have a peaceful solution. With the mentality of these world leaders we can guarantee several decades of peace before these leaders come up with a solution.

The American and Israeli government don't realize it. Everytime they launch a stupid war against an Arab nation for no good reason and start commiting horrible crimes against civilians, they are encouraging terrorism not hindering it.
