yes i'm your total girlie girl. and i've been told that all that is wrong with my car's AC is that i need Freon. but i don't know where to put it in. I have a 2000 pontiac grand am. I'd take it to a shop, but i wanted to see if it is possible to do it myself and save some money.

any advise is helpful.. or if you live in the Madison WI area and want to do it for me (or for cheap) let me know : )

Your vehicle does not use Freon. It uses R134a, which is not, repeat, NOT Freon.

Since the R134a refrigerant is potentially deadly, when aspirated, I do not ever recommend a DIY recharge. It is possible your A/C system may have a leak.

Have your vehicle inspected by a qualified professional.

It isn't that hard to do, but you would need a refill hose and at least one can of r134a refrigerant. At walmart, the hose is about $20, and a can about $10. For probably $40-50 a shop could do it. Another option is to ask around if any friends have the refill hose and do it for you, it would just cost the can. Get the kind with sealer in it, in case you have a small leak.

The place it goes is, look for 2 aluminum tubing, near the front under the hood. They'll have a connection with a black plastic cap. One is a little larger size connector than the other. This is the refill, the refill hose will only fit on the correct quick-connect fitting.

To get the freon recharged you should take it to a shop. It's not that easy to put in yourself.

If you have no knowledge about working on cars do not do it yourself. It is not something you just pour in like oil.
