Abstract nouns are things that cannot be physically touched yet they exist: qualities (example: kindness, beauty, heroism) & emotions/feelings (love, hate, excitement).

Love is definitely a thing that exists but you cannot reach out and touch it physically. It is an abstract noun.

Abstract nouns are the names of qualities or ideas and cannot be known through any of the senses. For example "honesty" is an abstract noun. You cannot see or feel honesty; rather you see someone being honest. "Justice," "freedom," and "kindness," are all abstract nouns.

I hope this helps.

Abstract nouns, such as truth or beauty, are words that are neither specific nor definite in meaning; they refer to general concepts, qualities, and conditions that summarize an entire category of experience. Conversely, concrete terms, such as apple, crabgrass, computer, and French horn, make precise appeals to our senses. The word abstract refers to the logical process of abstraction, through which our minds are able to group together and describe similar objects, ideas, or attitudes.

eg: Freedom; happiness; idea; music are all abstract nouns that have no physical existence.
