My friend found out what she was having through a regular ultrasound at 15 weeks. Would it be easier to find out what the baby is through a 4-D ultrasound and could it be done earlier?

they usually won't give you a 4d ultrasound until you are 25 weeks. they don't like to do this until then because the baby is thin (no fat) It's a little scary to some people. The picture breaks up and is blotchy. They just don't want to scare you. Some times the picture is missing say part of the face...Just wait until you can see a plump fat baby then it's more worth it....

I went for a regular ultrasound at 18 weeks and still couldn't tell. When I scheduled my 4D, they told me 23 weeks was the earliest they would do them. And 28 weeks is ideal. I am going for my 4D at 25 weeks. Honestly I don't think they will do 4D ultrasounds until your at least 20-23 weeks.

you can find out very early with 4d ultrasounds but i dont think its ealier than 16 weeks. i wouldnt want to attempt that early anyways. i had a 3d ultrasound done with my son my doc would only do them between 26 and 32 weeks....this way the baby isnt too big or too small....i got perfect pictures of his face and other parts of his body....and yes i would think its easier to distinguish what the sex of the baby is through 3 or 4d ultrasounds compared to a regular 2d ultrasound bc of the detail it can give.

really 15 weeks is a stretch on any ultra sound equipment, the genitals really arent formed well enough to be seen until 16 weeks... and even then its really difficult to get an accurate reading.

You can ask your doctor how soon you could find out on a 4d machine... but i doubt they would order one sooner than 16 weeks unless they had a real reason. generally they just dont.
