It means you have low iron, which could complicate your preg.

yup, I was anemic, it means your blood count is low. Usually (99.9% of the time) this is caused by an iron deficency. I had to take Iron suppliments and go get my blood drawn again. I was fine after a week or so.

Also, being anemic makes you extreamly tired, can cause dizzieness and even nausa. So, it may be really good that you found out, if you have any of these symptoms. Once I got on the iron suppliments, I had a lot less headaches, dizzieness and more energy.

Also, if they have you take iron suppliments, remember not to take them with anything dairy or with cacium, since calcium blocks the absorbtion of Iron and visa versa. Stay away from calcium for 1 hour before and after you have taken your suppliment.

Take your iron tablet (or liquid) with orange juice ( make sure it is NOT calcium enriched). Vitamin c helps your body absorb and process iron. Also, if the iron suppliments they give you make you sick (mine did) then ask your doctor if you can try the brand Slow Fe for your iron suppliments. They are less likely to make you sick, they also have suppliments that include Folic Acid.

I was anemic during pregnancy. The OB told me to take 35 MG of over the counter Iron pills everyday. It really helped me not feel so tired, too.

It just means you are going to have to take an iron pill every day, no biggie. You probably have been feeling sluggish and tired alot. Thats why. Iron is necessary to make hemoglobin, the substance that carries oxygen through your blood to all the cells in your body to give you energy. You generally need more of it when you become pregnant. If you dont have enough you will start to feel tired all the time. Just be sure to take it with food.

Low iron, not big deal. They will probably just give you an iron pill to take---makes your stool BLACK...sometimes can make you constipated as well...drink lots of water and eat salads!

Low iron could mean that you are not eating enough red meat. Have a nice juicy burger!

Yes, be sure to take your pre-natal vitamins. I had to especially since I was having a c-section and knew about it ahead of time. They were afraid for me to lose to much blood because of the anemia.

call your doctor back and ask them what it means...you should have asked him or her when they called you with your results.
