I travel from NY State in to Canada and back quite frequently. I have my Driver's License and my Birth Certificate for ID. But they've never asked to see my Birth Certificate.

You only need your daughters birth certificate. You will need a driver's license and a birth certificate. They don't always ask for a birth certificate but if they do and you don't have they can deny you entry. Check out the link I provided below.

We went to Canada after 9/11. They barely looked at our driver's licenses and didn't ask to see birth certificates. I would still take as much ID as you have for your baby---make copies in case something gets lost or ruined. Better to be safe than sorry.

Copied from internet source below:

When you enter Canada, a customs officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, if one is necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as a photo ID. If you are a permanent resident of the U.S, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card (i.e., green card) with you.

Bringing children into Canada
If you are travelling with children, you should carry identification for each child. Divorced parents who share custody of their children should carry copies of the legal custody documents. Adults who are not parents or guardians should have written permission from the parents or guardians to supervise the children. When travelling with a group of vehicles, parents or guardians should travel in the same vehicle as the children when arriving at the border.

Customs officers are looking for missing children and may ask questions about the children who are travelling with you.

When i bring my kids all i show is their birth certificates. If my husband isn't with me I take a letter from him stating that I have his permission to bring my kids to another country. That sounds stupid but I have been asked several times at the border if my husband knows I am taking my kids to Canada.

My mom took my sis & I when we were teenagers. We did not need anything but took a birth certificate just in case. You may want to call someone though-just to be safe. My trip was pre-9/11.

I don't know about canada, but we went to mexico last year, and all we needed was a passport. My sister who went with us was 11 at the time, and I was 15, and we were both able to get passports before the trip at the county offices.

Currently, photo id, birth certificate are required. 2008 you will require a passport. Save yourself some trouble and get her a passport. I got one for my kids last year and they asked to see them when I travelled into the US.

Nothing. That is, unless George Bush has something to say about it.
