i was thinking places like iraq afghanistan palestine etc.. you hear about them being bombed or attacked every second day. do the ordinary citizens lead a normal life? like can you roam around in the city safely? how does it change? like the bombing of beirut airport .. i was wondering how normal ordinary people deal with it...

There is usually a palpable fear and tension in these places. Normal life is disrupted. School, work places and social life almost come to a standstill. People generally want to flee such places. Even while sleeping at night, no one is truly at rest. The next bomb may hit your roof.
Families want to stay together. So everyone can be accounted for.
War brings out the worst in human cruelty and suffering. But also the best in courage and human endurance and survival.

I've never lived in a war-torn country (unless you consider the US a war-torn country in a social/economic way), but my heart goes out to those who have.

my gf was born in Lebanon. she has 2 sisters and her mother still there. she has been talking to them daily. they pretty much just go about their lives as best they can. she called her sis. yesterday. (she lives about 15 mins. from the airport) she was just returning from getting a manicure and having coffee with friends. said that so she can sleep amongst all the noise, she takes a couple Valiums
