Physics is the ultimate sciences' wonder. It covers the widest range of arguments, among the logical-exact sciences.
History isnt the recording of things, guys, but getting the truth
from either - rare.or non-, or -too abundant- documents, all of very dubious reliability .
As the question asks about 'profoundness' ,no doubt that historians need a wider cross-fields preparation and equal mental flexibility.
History is the answer.

Physics. Gave us TV and cars, and so much more. History does not really teach you anything. Just lets you know that some things happened somewhere one day, than other happened somewhere else. I wouldn't call any of these "most profound achievements of human intellect", there is Hegel too.

Obviously physics (if those are the only two choices). History is not an achievement but merely a recording of achievements.

They're interdependent. Recorded history has seen improvements in accuracy, detail and timeliness because of scientific discoveries and inventions such as cameras and videos. Another invention is ultrasound which is sometimes used in archaeological excavations to determine the age and location of fossils and such.

I was going to say physics, but I'm not so sure now that I think about it. Though they appear to be at different ends of the intellectual spectrum, they are not so different- they both involve discovery of things that already exist in order to advance our understanding of our future and who we are. So I don't know.

history is merely the ability to write down what happened. while it is important, it is nowhere near as intellectualy challenging as, say, quantum physics, or general relativity physics, or string theory.
