Cook Top brand by Elco is the best of the smooth top cleaners, but it is hard to find. Sometimes a paste of baking soda helps. If you scrape it with a blade, be SUPER careful!! It will scratch the ceramic top. That's why they don't recommend cooking with cast iron on that type of top.

If you get it clean, clean it every week or two. It only takes five minutes, and it's worth it. I love mine. Your stain may be starch ( pasta boil over, or rice). Starch and sugar (fudge, syrups) are the the hardest things to get off of the ceramic tops.

One last idea, try putting Colgate (the original white toothpaste, not gel) on the burn and cover for several hours with a damp towel. Then wipe the paste away. See if that works, I did it to some Corning Ware, and it worked.

Look in the supermarket for cleaning solutions made just for smooth top ranges. There is a scraper available through MayTag for tougher jobs.

is it the smooth top stove you want to clean or the oven? If it is the smooth top...I've found that rubbing compound works nicely and doesn't scratch.

If it is really dirty wipe it down with some dish washer soap. Not dish soap, but dish washer soap. Let it sit for awhile. Then you can use one of those no scratch scotch pad scrubbers and clean it off. The down side is that it takes a bit of wiping to get the soap back off, but it cleans it really well.

Softscrub works great on a soft clean cloth or dish sponge. Rinse and wipe with dry cloth
