Is anyone else ready for a good majority of African Americans to get over the fact that our great great great grandparents enslaved them? I mean i admit it was wrong, but come on it is the 21st century stop expecting handouts because your great great great grandparents were enslaved. Get out and stop expecting everyone to feel sorry for you, and stop hating the white people because of it. I am not at all racist, this issue just kind of bothers me. I mean it was a horrible thing that happened and i agree it needs to be reconized and understood, but it isn't doing anyone any good for you to pity yourself all the time over it.

Even Bill Cosby at a commencement speech spoke to his people about getting over the fact and make something of themselves.

Society should never ever forget these things. Forgetting them will unsure that they happen again.
Individuals on the other hand should defenitely get over it. I am sorry that it happened, but it did. They are free now and considered equals (except by a very small minority) and are able to persue freedom and happiness as guaranteed by our constitution. I know too many black people who are very successful and grew up in the projects.

The funny thing is, a good number of black people here aren't descended from slaves...they just didn't take the time to check the old family tree.

Also, did you know how slavery started? BLACK PEOPLE (the ones who were more refined, educated, had more money, etc.) went out and gathered up all the "wild" people in the bush and sold them to white people. It's not like my ancestors traveled over on a boat and picked them out one by one. Yes, they held slaves, but that was the way it was at the time...you were rich, white and owned a plantation, so you kept slaves. Nothing can be done about it now, so stop harping about it!

I don't think that's what is being said at all. I think what's being said is that while we need to continue to recognize and teach about these parts of history it should not be something that is used to get anything, i.e. handouts, etc.

By the same token, I have not run into any African Americans that try to use this as a means to get anything whether it's sypmathy or otherwise. Most of the African Americans I've met or known in my life have moved on.

Explain to me about the african americans you've met that are looking for hand outs. Have you spoken with them and they enlightened you on their situations. They told you I want a hand out because of slavery? Their are many people who receive handouts due to a situation. Slavery was a situation that changed the lives and generations of many like a plague. Some people never recovered from it because it follows them. I never hear anyone say gimme because of slavery. This is just your interpertation of African Americans and to even post this you must have predgidous feelings towards them. There are people of every race that at some point expect a hand out. You are probably one of them. You want a handout now for people to agree with you.

I'm pretty damn sure that a lot Africans today wish that their great great grandparents had been enslaved. Maybe that way, they wouldn't be living in the sh__hole they live in now! Talk about a different perpective eh!?

Slavery is still in existence today. I think we should focus more on human rights in today's world and quit harping on the past. Learn from your past, don't live in it!

BTW, African-Americans are not the only people who have been held in slavery.

I think they'll stop feeling that way when Caucasians stop feeling entitled to everything.
