I must confess i've never used one before. I threaded right, i think, the thread goes through the needle and fabric but doesn't actually leave the stiches on. What did i do wrong? i tried different patterns and stiches but nothing works. After you thread the needle, what do you do with the remaining thread? Gosh, i hope this is clear.
Thanks! (the machine is an old singer one)

You have to have two sources of thread to make the stitch. It sounds like you have the first part done right, but now you need to get the second. On my machine there's a compartment under the needle that you pop open and load in the bobbin. You have to take the thread from the spool and manually wrap it around the bobbin. Once it's loaded you have both the top and bottom threads held off to one side and load in your fabric. Make sure you lower the needle so the fabric is secure, and fire away. It's hard to explain without actually having the machine in front of you, but I hope this helps!

It is probably your NOT threading through the tension. Note the dial that says tension (ignore it) and look for a spring looking thing where your thread goes down to the needle. Your thread must run through the loop of this tension spring. Your machine is probably reliable and if you are a beginner I would not recommend some of the more complicated sewing machines out there. After you learn to thread correctly and can sew hold both threads in your righthand hand then sew holding on to threads until they are free of area you just sewed.

Try this out..1. Check out on the 'teeth-like' objects underneath the needle-plate that push the cloth /fabric after each time the needle stitches. Check if the 'object is tight enoug to push the fabric 2.Check for the belt connecting to the wheel to the handle connected to the bigger round circle which rotates (i am not a technical person to use the correct terminology, i reckon). 3. Hope the wheel rotates smoothly without any jamming. If not, apply some oil on the points where they have indications. It should work.

You might have the needle threaded wrong.Different machines thread different ways. Some go in front to back, some go in side to side.Check your manual if you have one or just try it both ways. Also make sure the feed dog is up(the thing under the foot with the teeth) If it down it can't feed the cloth under the foot. Also your bobbin might not be threaded right. You can find help on all this online.Try about.com or type in sewing in the address field.Stick with it,practice makes perfect!!

Did you put thread in the bobbin (the reel underneath where the needle goes down through the metal plate)?

You need to make sure the bobbin has thread on it, and is installed properly underneath the needleplate.

It could be the machine's fault. My BF has a cheap brand ($99) It also does that. Kenmore is the best (thats the kind I have)
