I have felt all along that while Hermione loves Harry, it's not "that" kind of love - I think she's more drawn to Ron & they both care for Harry & tend to watch over him to keep him safe. (or as safe as they can)

I think that he would like hermione regardless of cho, but he is just too shy, and it would make thier threesome (harry herm ron) kind of awkward, and ron would be a third wheel. That's why they needed to date outside their circle until one of the two boys found someone else, so the other boy could be with hermie.

no, he wouldnt date hermione. he just needed a girl to pass the time until it was cool to date ginny, as he is doing it the books. ron likes hermione and has for some time, so it never woulda been cool for harry to date her. and she doesnt like him like that anyways, she loves him like a sister would a brother or something, not like that. hermione and ron act kinda like harry's parents, trying to show him the ropes and keep him safe as much as possible
