There has just been a news item on BBC UK about the shooting of the Brazilian and that the officers will not be prosecuted. I suppose that is what prompted the question. Mike M. I would like to ask you how many times you honestly and truthfully felt that you were within one or two seconds of instant death due to what someone you again honestly believed was about to do. Not only that, but you again honestly believe that numerous other people are going to die with you. I will bet - never. I have, and I can tell you that it is not a nice feeling. You know that no matter what happens you are going to be called to account, and rightly so, but you will be treated like a murderer and interviewed accordingly. Your clothing will be seized and you will be detained with access to a solicitor and 'friend'. You know that if you make a mistake, a genuine mistake, in answering a question(s) about the affair, you will probably be charged, attend court and maybe find yourself convicted of a very serious crime. That is how you feel, and afterwards you go through hell, wishing that you had taken 'time-off' or Annual Leave instead of going to work that day. Tragedies will happen, regrettably some will result in death, but the defense of oneself, ones fellow officers and most importantly the public, comes, and hopefully always will, come first.

yes they do get away with murdering children and breaking down the wrong door and murdering whoever is behind the door. they have the equipment to protect them if they r shot at. we the people don't have equipment to protect ourselves. so why r they shooting at anyone? i want 2 believe they don't intentionally murder most of them.they get time off with pay and that's wrong.they lie and abuse our children in the worst way. they use our children against there parents call it good for the people when no others have been injuried. next thing our children don't have either parents, no help for them no counseling. they call this in the best intrest of the child when they really don't give a damn about our children, i don't think they want 2 kill people they r setting our children up to be felons. if they weren't most of our tax dollars would be going 2 education not taken from.how else do u stop the cycle of any abuse except give all of our children the best education availible. we are the richest country and still a "D" is passing.? I guess u can't control intelligent people.

If your on about that guy they shot then you are way off base. These men and women put thier lives on the line every time they put the uniform on and for who? For you butthead! that's who.

They acted appropriately, unfortunatley the man was not a terrorist.
In times like this when we are being bombed and buildings collaspe because of some insane religions misguided look on the world I am more than grateful that there are police officers willing to go out and fight the battle and I can go on living my life as I want. You can too, ill founded complaints and all.

They are corrupt!!!They are as bad as a gang. In fact that's all the judges, prosecuters, even defense attorney's and the police are, just one big gang. I don't support gangs, none of any kind. They say they are a part of the "christian right", and that they are bringing people closer to God by doing things the way they do but really they don' t care especially if your poor.

My understanding of the menezes shooting, i presume it is to this you are refering, was that a catalogue of errors lead to his death. Namely the 'spotter' was on the toilet instead of doing his job, Menezes got off his bus, looked around and reboarded, no communications underground, and the most important in my opinoin; that there was a member of the military on each team working this detail. The military work completely differntly and in my opinion have no need to be doing this sort of work.
I do not blame the police but the commisioner etc who should organise this better

A timely question....in the small county we live in (150,000 people), there have been 3 people killed by police force in just the past week-- one of them, a 17-year-old boy, whom his mother, ironically, thought needed police intervention because her son was suicidal. Go figure...

I think youj're wrong - they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't. I know quite a few policemen and they're decent people who work hard to produce a better society. If as a society we didn't breed terrorists, murderers, burglars, rapists, etc etc, we wouldn't need policemen and women.
If London hadn't just suffered a terrorist attack, that poor Brazilian wouldn't have been killed.

its not murder in the legal sense, but a lawful killing unless proved otherwise. Public policy is usual, the national security issues override everything else, as well as human rights.
