All I used to hear from ESPN, and many other sports providers was songs of praise towards Charlie Weis, and as college football season draws nearer, it is starting up again. I honestly believe there are greater college coaching minds out there, and that Charlie's success at Notre Dame cannot be fully attributed to him. Look what Ohio State did to them in the Fiesta. Yes, OSU had more talent on the field that day, but everyone I had talked to had said that with a month to prepare, Notre Dame would mop the floor with the Ohio State defense. Personally, I didn't see any of that happen during the game. What I saw was Charlie Weis being outclassed by a superior team, led by a coach who had better prepared his players for the game.

So is Charlie Weis overrated? Who are some of the better coaches in college football?

This is a legit question..first off he really hasn't doing anything of ND yet! because I think this is the first time of kids that is recruited them or next year. Also ND is overrated...damn join a conference already. Norte Dame has some problems this year #1 being a trip to USC..don't laugh. The Trojans WILL be ready...if the Irish win then and only then will I give Charlie my thumbs up. Even the Opener at Ga.Tech is dangerous, Michigan at home....the Wolverines are still mad as hell about last year.
In the other part...there are better College Coachs Pete Carroll,Bob Stoops(the Sooners have returned), Bill Stoops(Arizona, not just hoops anymore), Jim Tressel, Steve Spurrier, Mark Reicht, Bobby Bowden, Terry Bowden(Clemson ACC front runners), Tom Coughlin(what a job at BC), Joe Pa(C'mon)....jesus you take about Weis like he's in the Hall ALREADY!! Note to others: WEIS was on a hell-of-a coaching staff in N.England!!...and at ND even with Brady Quinn the Irish are 1-2 years from National Crown contender...hell last year the Buckeyes threw them a backyard beatin' and Quinn could do NOTHING!! ND needs to join a Conference!!

I am a hardcore loyal OSU fan, but I can honestly say that Charlie Weis is a pretty good coach. He did a lot in New England and he's already done a lot in ND. Yes, he did get outcoached by Tressel, but he is still a pretty good coach. I would be inclined to say that Tressel is a better coach, partially due to his recruiting. Weis doesn't have the recruiting power yet that Lou Holtz, Joe Paterno, or Steve Spurrier ever had. Give him a while to build and he may, though. I don't know about overrated as I don't even know if they actually rate the coaches individually. Over-hyped...maybe.

I don't think he's overrated at all. Being from Boston I can tell you that he deserves a lot of the credit for the Patriots Superbowl run and for Tom Brady's development into an NFL star. Give Weis some credit. Also give him some time and he might turn out to be one of the best coaches out there.

he is overrated. its hard to beat a coach when your not framilier with what he is going to do with the team. being from south bend, i have seen this before with tye willingham. same thing happend. hes gods gift to ND, his first season, i think they left 2-3 games, and lost the bowl game. wiess is a good coach. but he was out coached in the bowl game. its true. ohio state had time to look at film, figure out ND's offense, and destroyed them. i think we should all see what ND does in the second season. then we shall see what the future will hold a lot better for ND. with all that said, i dont think that weiss is nearly as over rated as Quinn. the kid CAN NOT and i mean CAN NOT do anything under pressure.

Oh yeah. Sure, he can prepare for games don't get me wrong, but Jim Tressel hasn't lost a bowl game since his first bowl game at Ohio State. 4-0 since then. He beat the "almighty" Hurricanes with time to prepare, and now he's beaten Charlie Weis. Tressel definately outcoached him but he gets no press, but that's the way he likes it.

Weis was great with the Pats, & is doing great at Notre Dame. He will win the national championship this year, & when they do, please give me my 10pts.
