Ishmael will answer the first question; the rest I can't help you with. Reading Ismael has opened my eyes to a lot of things. You may need sparknotes for some of it, as it does get a bit confusing, but when you've read it and understood it, you'll have a whole new perspective on life.

The Mothman prophecies is a good UFO/supernatural book. Very weird stuff and supposedly true. Nothing like the movie at all, which is very Hollywoodized.
