I just got a used oak desk. It had clear packing tape on the desk surface that when I pulled it off left a sticky white mark. Almost like pulling it off an imitation wood surface? It's like this one.

Question1: How do I clean it off?
Question2: The tape came off the drawers just fine. No marks - does this mean the top of the desk is farmaica ?

1) Use Goo Gone or lighter fluid. It may remove some of the color, but it works. You can probably touch up the stain.

2) I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that the top is really wood and the drawers are more likely some sort of veneer.

you might try olde english oil and super fine steel wool. If it is oak, this will lift and remove the tape, iif it is formica, the surface may be a bit abraded so be careful.
