Combine like terms first:

x^2 + 3xy - 15wy - 5wx.

x(x + 3y) - 5w(3y + x)

(x - 5w)(x + 3y) = answer

Making my head spin...

There is no variable that can be taken out right away...

(x^2+3xy)+(-15wy-5wx)?

= x(x+3y) - 5w(3y+x)
= (x+5w)(x+3y)

I can only get you that far, don't know if it's right or not...

x^2-15wy+3xy-5wx

x^2-5wx-15wy+3xy

x(x-5w)+3y(-5w+x)

x(x-5w)+3y(x-5w)

(x-5w)(x+3y)

Factor by grouping like terms.

2006-07-17 06:04:46 · answer #7 · answered by bigbruth 2 · 0 0

x^2-15wy-5wx+3xy
x^2 -5w(3y+5x) + 3xy
x^2 + 3xy -5w(3y+5x)
x(x+3y) -5w(3y+ 5x)=0
x(x+3y)= 5w(3y+5x)
x/5w= 5x+3y/x+3y
x=5w(5x+3y/x+3y)

Trust me. Its like this...
(x^2)-5*(wx+3*(wy-0.2*xy))

The * symbol means multiply. I ran this through my TI-89 and it works. Good luck.
