Well, according to WebMD, "Most births occurred in the fall, between September and November." The article also explains some other facts that were found:

Child birth occurred equally on any given day.
Every hour of the day, a baby was born.
Fewest births were between 10 a.m. and noon.
Child births were least common in the winter during the months December through February.
Women who had given birth before delivered most often between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The link below gives the article where this information was gathered from WebMD's Medical News Archive. Hope this helps! :)

My guess would be September it is exactly 9 months after the cold, boring January. When all you have to do is snuggle up.

Plus When the child is a year old you will be weaning it in the winter. When food stay fresh because of the cold. Haven't you heard the saying "Don't wean a child in spring...it's bad luck?" It comes from the old days before refrigerators when you might accidentally give the child food poisoning.

I'm just guessing though. I think the government census beuro would have those numbers.

I have a theory regarding birthdays - they are usually nine months after some celebration or holiday. I'm a St. Patrick's Day baby (mid-December) but have MANY friends and family with October birthdays (New Year's babies) and November (Valentine's babies).
