Racism exists practically in all countries, but in certain places and situations it is especially common. Some of the very common reasons for racism to arise are fear or the need for a "scapegoat". If things are going badly many people’s natural reaction is to blame somebody else. This is exactly what often causes racism, if the unemployment is rising or the national economy is very weak, many people will look for a scapegoat to blame, and in most cases they will choose the people that they do not know, such as those with a different ethnical or cultural background.
Racism is caused by fear

In some cases racism can generate such an enormous amount of anger that it can cause a war. The thing that causes this anger is mainly fear. Fear that the stranger will take your house, your job, your wife. You don’t know who this stranger is, and he doesn’t know you. To fight racism we have to get to know each other and learn more about each other’s cultures. We have got to share each other’s joys, but also learn that we often have the same problems and worries.

there are a bunch of different factors that can make someone be(come) racist. for one, it could be their background. if their parents / guardians are racist, then they probably projected those negative opinions to their children. the children grow up assuming these opinions are true.

another thing could be a bad experience. if you have a bad experience with someone of a different race you already had assumptions about, that might further make your assumptions negative, thus making you not able to trust others of that race.

i'd say everything comes back to assumptions and/or opinions. these assumptions and opinons come back to ignorance, and ignorance is the result of lack of education. if people are not aware of how or why other people actually are or act, there might not be so many assumptions in the world.

they pick it up from their parents.i was watching an old episode of 7th heaven and all the kids were playing tag or sumthin like that and the black kid was it, then he tagged a white boy and they the boy got mad and said [n]igger. they siomon punched the guy in the face. the little boy got it from his dad. then the dad burned down the church of the black people. at the end he was still rasict but simion's dad eric the preacher new god was watching them. they invited all the blacks to the white church. i'm not sure if he forgave him or not but that was the most touching story i've seen. so it's them that their saying. god knows what their doing wrong.my friend thinks jeus is black cause in the bible it says sumthin like he hair is wool , his skin is brown so if he is they the rasit is making a hudge mistake. good luck and god bless.

How they are raised in the home, it's passed down by generations of racism.

But outside infuences play a big part too, because I grew up with a racist mother, but because I grew up in a diverse neighborhood and school, I'm not racist.

My boyfriend is Pakistani and i'm white.

Rasism is still around because it's passed down.

My guess would be fear from what they don't understand and an unwillingness to understand. It's an unfortunate fact that human nature causes people to fear what they do not understand, and too many people see only the stereotypes without really getting to know others.

lack of education & narrow-mindedness, and apparently, selfishness also.

why people become racists? it could be environmental also, if the place where they live is not as diverse, then there is a probability.

im not white, im asian... but i don't really care if a person is a racist, as long as this person doesn't touch me or talk to me, then we have our own boundaries. i just remind myself that i am more educated that these racists, and that i don't need to argue with them.
