It has been 5 years since I played baseball. It will be 6 by the time tryouts begin in Sep 07' at my college.
I am a left fielder for your knowledge.
I have a year and all the equipment to start. What should I do to improve speed, throwing power, and batting average.

In all honesty (as someone who once played college ball), it's going to be very difficult to play at the college level, if you have not played in 6 years.
But, you should not let that stop you. Some things you can do:
1.) start conditioning...running distances, sprints, etc. Condition on a daily basis, alternating days where you run distance on one day, hard sprinting drills the next.
2.) get in a batting cage, and start hitting (start slow and build up) a ton. 200 swings a day, once you build up, off a tee or cone. Then work to where you can have someone throwing you live BP.
3.) Long toss every day. Go out and work on arm strength by throwing long every day. Go to the point where you can't reach your partner anymore, and then move 10 steps back and make 5 throws from that distance. Keep moving back every week as your arm strength increases.
4.) Have someone hitting you fly balls & ground balls everyday. Get used to being an OF again.
If you do all that, and work really hard on getting in baseball shape, you have done your part. Good luck!

Speed = Work out at gym
Throwing power = Work out at gym
Batting average = Go to baseball camps, perfect your swing in the batting cages, work out at the gym, take even more private lessons to hone your swing, and then pray

you should practice , you should play catch with someone every day and hit off a tee to improve your swing (even the major leaguers do it) and let someone hit fly balls, ground balls to you so you can Field them (I play baseball on a team, my team is the diamondbacks) (Raleigh parks and rec.) (pony leag) run the bases start building up your muscles then go in the batting cages ( try to start at 55 mph and go up to about 90mph) Hear are som tips : step toward the piture when your hitting it adds more power , and use your whole body , when you throw step toward who your throwing to , and use two hands to field fly balls in the out field.

First thing you should coach a team. It will hone up your skills as well as give you a great reference. The coaching clinics always look good, for baseball as well as professionally.
Batting cages aren't just for kids. And go to the gym a lot to work on specific muscles.

Find someone to long-toss with every day and to roll you about 100 ground balls a day. Find someone to toss you plastic golf balls to hit against a wall by the hundreds, and if you can get to a batting range, do that as well.
Begin running every day, and do exercises to increase your upper body strength.
