I live in Toronto and have written several plays which have been fairly well received. I'd love for a professional company to produce or workshop one, but I'm not sure where to start.

You should contact me directly because this is exactly what I have done and I have finally had some luck.
First. go to www.burryman.com they will show you lots of different information.
Second. buy the resource guide.
Third. Get a pro-editor to take a look at it. Try www.guru.com or www.elance.com
Get a pro to take a look at it, edit and proofread it.
Number 1 thing, is have patience, it takes a long time to get your first negative responses, ten times longer to get a positive. Just have patience and realize it is a devotion of love. It will cost you time and money like you have never realized. Make friends with your post men.
Don't ever forget SASE. You will find out what that means. Good luck.

Call the theaters that you want to produce your play, or, look on their website.

They should have "play submission guidelines," on the website. If not call and ask them about the guidelines for play submission.

Or, produce it yourself, that way you have total control. If someone else produces your work, you may loose "your vision," of it and end up with something you hate!. On the plus side, you don't have the expense of theater rental, actor salaries, etc.
