The Grudge..okay, it's not the world's scariest movie. It doesn't even come close. But I'm not the biggest scary movie fan and my best friend dragged me to this. Every time the music got all spooky and I got that feeling something bad was going to happen, I'd put my head down and the boys sitting behind me would start kicking my chair trying to get me to watch. What made it even worse was for the next two weeks I kept hearing this scratching noise in our attic and I was convinced the "grudge lady" (whatever that thing with the long hair was) was in my attic.
Turns out it was a raccoon.
So, yeah, that's my scary movie story. I am the biggest dork answering this question!

Alien back in the day. It's hard to say if this was a gore type movie as most movies back then had plenty of it.
This first came out in 1979.
A year later Friday the 13th.....JJJJAAASSSSOOONNNN. Jason legend didn't start til years later after the 2nd Friday the 13th but thats a slasher series. Just to show you above statement and my age also....lol

I think the Ring was pretty scary. And the first time I saw Signs was scary, then it got funny the rest of the time. All M. Knight Shamalan movies are scary. And the Exorsism of Emily Rose.

I never watched a scary movie that truly scarred me until I saw The Grudge. That's a creepy movie...oh, and any movie that's based on a true story just because it's already happened and knowing that it really happened as you're watching it is freaky.

I'd say 'A Handmaiden's Tale'. It's just scary because :#1) someone could imagine such a controlled world, and #2) the thought of a world like that is just petrifying. The book, however, is better.
