does getting induced into labor hurt worse than going into labor naturally? And what do they do to induce you?

It hurts just as bad!! They use a shot (Ususally pitosin) to induce the labor...totally harmless.

I noticed with my kids that being induced doesn't hurt worse, but the contractions are closer together. Where natural labor is a nasty contraction then it goes away for a while, and so on, when you're induced you get a contraction but instead of going away all together it just dies down a little bit. Being induced is a little more vigorous, but truth be told all labor is labor and it all hurts like hell!!! Usually to be induced they slip something into your cervix called cervadil, and that starts the dilation process, usually your hormones will take over from there and contractions will start on their own, if not they will give you an IV drip of pitocin. Congratulations and good luck to you.

It depends on how they do it. If they just start pitocin on a high level, then you get contractions that start hard and heavy unlike natural labor that builds. If they start pitocin on a slow drip and then increase it, then it's pretty much like natural labor.

There are different ways to induce. If your cervix is still really long, and closed, they will either do a pill called cervadil, or a gel that helps soften up the cervix so it can start to dialate. That can take time to work, and you will be in bed and not able to get up and move around. After that starts to work, they will probably start pitocin.

It's possible that if you cervix is ripe and ready to go, they will do pitocin and then break your water. This doesn't hurt more then getting an exam done, so don't worry about that.

Sometimes natural labor hurts worse because you start into it before you are at the hospital to get an epidural. If your water breaks on its own, usually your contractions start coming hard and heavy and there is no stopping them.

I wouldn't worry about induction. They can give you an epidural to help with pain, and you will be just fine!!

Yes. First time I was induced and I had a hard time with that labor. They put on on an IV and give you Pitossin. Some drs also use a balloon to open the cervix...that hurts worse than having the baby. My second labor was natural and easy. Here's the catch. First time, had epidural and it still hurt real bad. Second time, had no drugs and came through it fine with no screaming.

Funny you ask.. I was induced, and I had a rare case because I didn't dialate after two days of induction. It was uncomfortable with the inducing, but It was well worth the cramping... I had contracted for 2 weeks 3-5 minutes apart... That was hell. If you ask for some pain meds they will give them to you. I had tons of staydal and tylenol with codine. Those people wont let you suffer. I was in the hospital for 2 days before I got an epidural. That was pretty painful, I think more for being a first time mom I didn't know what to expect. But AGAIN.. the epidural, your gonna need it unless you have 2 huge balls between your legs that make you really tough. lol. Good luck, I would say go for it!

Any labor you experience will have some pain associated with it, and no two birth experiences will be exactly alike. Inducing labor will be up to your OBG. The 2 most common methods I know of are recieving Oxytocin through intravenous drip and the Ocytocin tampon which is basically a tampon saturated with Oxytocin inserted into your vagina. You can help bring on labor naturally by stimulating your nipples for several minutes throughout the day, having sexual intercourse and having an orgasm. Also drink several cups of Raspberry Leaf Tea throughout the day to get those uterine muscles strong and going. This tea will also help after birth to get the uterus to contract back to it's original size.

Induced labor is from an IV drip into your arm or top of your hand. Pitocin is the medicine used. Sometimes Pitocin makes the labor stronger. Sometimes not. It's all going to depend on how your body reacts to the labor pains. Pitocin can be given in small doses just to help labor progress. It can be given from the start to help the labor to start. How much to be given will be determined by your OB. Once he/she checks your cervix size, then the decision on how much to use will be made. He/she will discuss this with you as well so that you're aware of what's going on. Some hospitals will make you stay in bed. Others will allow you to walk around. The hospital I was at tried to make me stay in bed. I refused & cleared it with my OB to walk around whenever I wanted.

I was induced with both of my kids, i did have long labor both times and was told that it makes your contractions a little stronger and labor longer. I was in labor with my first for 27 hrs and 14 with my second. All they did was put petocion in my IV.

no, it's the same. inducing labor just means that the doc. is getting the labor started....and the labor is the pain part, not the inducement of it.
