I hear some Conservative pundits and even some of the Yahoo! Answers users call Liberals "Kool-Aid drinkers." Perhaps I am a little slow catching up with this talking point, but what the hell does Kool-Aid have to do with anything? I happen to like the stuff, does that make me bad or something? Please inform me, I'm lost!

If this refers to the Jim Jones cult being led blindly and not questioning their leader, then why are the Liberals called "Kool-Aid drinkers" and not Conservatives? Cons follow the President blindly and don't speak against him. (Most of them, not all.)

It's a term that refers to the Jonestown Massacre, when Jim Jones got his cult to drink poisoned Kool-Aid, effectively killing all of them... they drank it because they followed him blindly, as though he was the Messiah.

The term has grown in popularity over the last few years (regardless of how distasteful it is) because of the metaphor it represents....

Drinking the Kool-Aid means you've bought the story, you're a convert, you're a follower.

My only guess is it's a reference to the Jonestown mass suicide of the late 1970s. Probably refers to a large group blindly following a charismatic leader without questioning his or her motives/ethics/sanity, etc. Jim Jones' followers drank Kool-Aid laced with Valium and cyanide.

I am unfamiliar with this term and being a Conservative Republican, I also am concerned because I like Kool-Aid myself. The only thing I can guess is that they are using the term to Identify Liberals with unknowing and uneducated children seeing as Kool-Aid is most associated with children.

Look up Jim Jones and the Jonestown and mass suicide. But it was Flavor Aid not Kool-aid that the cyanide was mixed with.
It has to do with the liberals all marching in lock step if your out of step watch out.

first of all it should be conservatives who are the kool aid drinkers.
what this mean is that back in the 70's therew was a fad of putting drugs like DMT or DGT in drinks like punch or kool aid so people would get high and have sex and do all kinds of crazy ****, Basically they would do things conservatives hate, thus conservatives started to say thatthe liberals drank the kool aid.

i havent heard it before, but considering that i find liberals to live in a childish made up world of simple one time fixes and happiness without cost, i'd assume it has something to do with calling them ignorant children.
