I would say we are probably the same as we were 1000 years ago.

Although this is totally off the subject, the military found a way to bend light thus enabling the abiity to make a cloak suit (like the one in pretender) I'll see if I can find you the link later.

strictly speaking, whenever we move faster than something, we're already going forward in time with respect to that something. that's Einstein's relativity for you. Relativity states that the faster we go, the slower time is for us (and therefore, the faster time is for other things - so technically everything else ages faster than us, and we effectively move forward in time).

now, regarding practical time travel, that may still be a bit far off, sadly. we are actually travelling forward in time now, coz the earth revolves around the sun in a very fast speed, but the difference of times is kind of small to be of significance.

consider: if we wanted to move forward in time at TWICE the speed of normal time, we would have to reach a speed of one-half the speed of light (one half would be 93,000 miles / sec). now, if the implications of the fuel requirements of such a feat still hasn't jarred your hopes yet, you may not yet have realized that to move forward in time one year at this rate, we would have to maintain NONSTOP this speed for 6 months. this doesn't sound quite practical at all YET.

i would say close - read a news article where something like light or laser was sent forward in time and it arrived before it left ot something like that sorry read it a few months back but it made perfect sense at the time
