I have a 2000 Mazda Protege ES which came factory with 195/55-15 tires. Those tires are "High-Performance" tires designed only for the ES edition of my car, while the LX and the DX editions of the car come with 185/65-14 size tires. Can I put the 185/65-14 size for the DX/LX tires on my 2000 Mazda Protege ES?

you can only do that if you exchange rims=wheels ,too.
Also, doing that will change your speedometer reading

here is the key to reading the numbers the first number is the with of the tire/ the second number is the thickness measured from the end of the rim to the tread- and the third number is the rim size.
now that that is cleared out there is a rule that anything at 60 or less is considered a Low profile tire which also means that is usually thicker as is your 195/55-15 is the same size of configuration but not the same size rim, if the bolt pattern is the same then you can put it on, but only untill you get a new tire on your 14 inch rim or you will damage all the tires if you run it for a prolonged period of time, low pro tires have a lower center of gravity and react much quicker to road conditions(however they are not meant for heavy loading). Is more or less a visual enhancement to have low pro tires, but they same performance as your 185/65-14 in normal driving up to the rated speed usually just below 125 miles/hour (might go much higher). You get into higher speed and your low profile better be a racing compound or it will come off the rim, and dont even think about runing the other tire at those speeds. By the way dont speed the reason they are rated that hi is because is expected for people to never reach those speeds on the road and is withing a sefety stand point.

NO>> PROBLEMS WITH 14 AND 15 INCH RIMS IS SERIOUS ISSUE THE DIFFERENT SIZES SHOULDNT HURT THEY SAY ONE UP AND ONE DOWN IS OK BUT THE DIFFERENT RIMS IS BIG BIG PROBLEM I WOULD NOT PUT THEM ON IF THE RIM ISSUE DID NOT CHANGE 15 TO 14 WILL NOT WORK AND NOT MESS UP YOUR VEHICLE CHECK BOLT PATTERN IS A MUST AND HEIGHT AND WIDTH INSIDE WALL OF FENDER TO MAKE SURE WONT RUB OR HIT
