The things to consider when buying a treadmill would be: Price, the needs of the users (weight, height), amount of use, roller size, motor size and warranty. The weight of the machine itself can be a factor -- the heavier machines are sturdier. Also, do you want folding or not.

What I tell a lot of people that come in to our repair shop or ask for advise is to head to a local store to try a couple of different units out, but buy online. You generally save on sales tax and get free shipping. Factor in that most online stores are cheaper and it's a bit of a no brainer.
